One of the specialisations of the Research Team I oversee is structural catalytic reactors used to remove flue gases from various sources, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). In recent projects I have also focused on the catalytic combustion of exhaust gas from biogas turbines. The approach to this problem is interdisciplinary and popularises the new emerging discipline of molecular catalyst engineering. Structured reactors are a unique invention that allow chemical processes to scale up freely. However, their application in various industrial processes is entirely dependent on the development of new, highly active catalysts with enhanced conversion tailored to high transport properties. The next route is to optimise the structure and composition of nanocomposite materials by correlating between: mass transport, catalyst structure and composition, and catalyst activity.

In situ and operando spectroscopic methods, which are currently being developed in our laboratory, appear to be the only way to understand the molecular-level processes involved in a single catalyst grain and to learn about the fundamental structure-performance relationships.

My research interests cover the field of conservation chemistry, which is a relatively new area of chemistry. So far, I have been involved in developing analytical techniques for possibly non-destructive and non-invasive analysis of the state of preservation of historic objects such as textiles and paper. In 2016, I defended my PhD thesis "Developing a method of molar mass distribution determination of fibroin and cellulose using size exclusion chromatography".

I am employed as an Assistant Professor in the Heterogeneous Reaction Kinetics Group at the Department of Chemistry, Jagiellonian University, where I conduct research related to the persistence and degradation of biopolymers in the context of conservation chemistry and in the field of heterogeneous catalysis.
